Pottery
I was always interested in learning ceramics and sculpture. My favorite artists are painters and sculptors, especially from the Renaissance era. My dream would be to make something lifelike, and who knows - maybe some day I’ll try my hand at it. I have taken a few courses in traditional pottery making to get a better understanding and appreciation for the art form.
Willie Jack
I am a big fan of the show Reservation Dogs. It’s a great show with an all Native American cast. I wanted to make something that stood out among my pottery pieces that was a step away from traditional designs. As I had specifically purchased a bear ceramic to depict an image, I wanted the image to be from this show.
The character Willie Jack is a fan favorite. The episode where this image was taken from was very intense and hit home with me. So as a tribute, I decided to make this my centerpiece at another O’Odham market at Cahokia.
I really enjoyed making it. The actress Paulina Alexis, who plays Willie Jack, even reposted it on social media. With a new season coming soon, I may make another piece dedicated to the show again.
